During the winter break, the Youngstown State University Police Department continued to address and report crime on campus as seen through its Clery Reports and Clery Daily Logs. The police department updates and publicizes on-campus crime regularly through the logs.

Since Dec. 15, 2025, YSU Police has received 19 reports and calls of various crimes, including theft, aggravated burglary, criminal damaging, trespass warnings, dating violence, drug law violation, obstruction of official business and identity fraud.

The logs listed two reports of theft — both of which have been reported as closed by YSUPD. According to the logs, the first theft took place at 3:15 p.m., Dec. 27, 2025, at the M63 parking lot, while the second occurred at 9:30 a.m., Dec. 28, 2025, in the M62 lot.

Two cases of criminal damage were reported to YSUPD. The first case occurred 3:15 p.m. Dec. 26, 2025 at the M63 lot and is now reported as closed. The second occurred at 1:30 a.m., on Jan. 5, and is reported as active.

One case of drug law violation and criminal trespassing was reported to have occurred 8:55 p.m Dec. 31, 2025 at Kohli Hall. Two officers were dispatched in reference to a suspicious male.

According to the police report, officers communicated with the man and were told he was near Kohli Hall for the free WiFi. Officers warned him that he had an active trespass warning from Dec. 28, 2025. Furthermore, the suspect had matched the description of prior thefts at the M62 and M63 parking lots.

The report stated officers found a box cutter, jewelry, pepper spray, Chore Boy, hypodermic needle and a substance suspected to be crack on the suspect. The man was arrested and taken into custody by the Mahoning County Sheriff’s Office.

A case of identity fraud that occurred on Nov. 3, 2025 was reported to YSUPD. The victim alleged that a Credit One Bank credit card and a Capital One credit card were opened under their name, but with a different address.

The victim stated to the police that both credit cards were opened through their Credit Karma account and they noticed a decline in their credit score.

The victim is unsure who the suspect is, but they informed the police that the address on the first floor of the Flat at Wick was a previous address.

One report of obstruction of official business occurred at 7:45 p.m.,  Jan. 7, on the Eastbound Service Road. In the report, an officer observed a white Ford Edge driving eastbound with no visible registration.

The officer conducted a traffic stop. Afterwards, two unknown suspects exited the vehicle and ran from the scene. The report stated that several officers pursued the suspects.

One officer obtained identifying information from the driver and passenger who had fled. Another officer pursued the suspect until they lost sight of the suspect in the tree line behind the address of 835 Fifth Ave. Officers observed a long, dark object held by the suspects during the pursuit.

The officers found a loaded firearm in the driveway of the Fifth Avenue address with a black drawstring bag. A sergeant found an unfired shotgun shell in the bushes near the firearm. According to the logs, the case is still active.
