The Secret History of the Rape Kit: A True Crime Story by Pagan Kennedy | Looking back at 1970s Chicago, one woman is at the center of working to correct the corruption of the city’s police department. Martha “Marty” Goddard is an educated woman in her 30s, working hotlines and in activist groups with one question: how can rape be proven in order to convict the criminals of such crimes and bring justice to survivors? Thus, the rape kit was born, which has since been pivotal in prosecutions and moving forward women’s rights. An inspiring and enlightening glimpse at how justice has evolved as we know it today.
