By the Fire We Carry: The Generations-Long Fight for Justice on Native Land by Rebecca Nagle | Nagle’s book passionately explains the history surrounding the state of Oklahoma, the Muscogee Land, as well as the several other tribal lands that Oklahoma sits upon. The fight for this land and the rights of indigenous people stretches back centuries, but recently came to a head in 2020 with a decision from the Supreme Court that stemmed from a murder trial in the 1990s.

Absolution: A Southern Reach Novel by Jeff VanderMeer | VanderMeer returns to the world of Annihilation in this prequel set before and during the creation of Area X. The novel follows Old Jim while he researches the first expeditions into Area X and then his own expedition. Old Jim and his team face the strange and mysterious landscape all while the characters struggle with their own inner demons. Recommended for fans of surreal horror and speculative science fiction.
