To promote community engagement in downtown Youngstown, Youngstown CityScape hosts a free art-centered event from 5-8 p.m. on the first Friday of each month for anyone interested to attend.

With downtown in walking distance of Youngstown State University, First Fridays promote accessibility for off-campus community events.

According to the First Fridays Youngstown website, First Fridays feature a range of activities such as live music, art displays and performances, local vendors and family-friendly activities. Activities are spread all throughout downtown locations, allowing visitors to explore the downtown landscape.

Upcoming events include “For the love of Dance” on Feb. 6. The event will take place at Ballet Western Reserve and Concept Studio, featuring dance related activities for all ages.

Youngstown CityScape is a nonprofit organization, promoting downtown revitalization, economic development and community engagement in Youngstown. The Downtown Youngstown Partnership, a division of Youngstown CityScape, organizes First Fridays events.

Previous First Fridays included dance performances, elementary work showcased at exhibits, live music performances and hands-on art activities. Some events have specific themes, such as Youth Art Month, which feature performances and exhibits by local schools and youth groups.

First Friday events were created to support downtown businesses and sponsor engagements between local businesses and the community. First Fridays encourages local establishments and restaurants to get involved by hosting activities.

First Fridays occur year-round unless otherwise stated by event organizers.
