The McDonough Museum of Art will host the 30th annual “Women Artists: A Celebration!” exhibit, presented by the YWCA of Youngstown, through July 27.
The juried art exhibition recognizes and supports outstanding local, regional and national women artists. This year, 315 pieces were submitted by 92 artists, but just 62 pieces from 35 artists were selected for inclusion in the exhibit.
Media include paintings, drawings, photographs, fiber, sculpture, ceramics and metal works.
Leslie A. Brothers, director of the McDonough, is responsible for selecting artwork for the exhibit as the show’s juror. It’s an extensive process, she said.
“It is not an easy task to view several hundred submissions with such range and depth, to form an even more substantive and coherent whole,” she said.
Brothers said many fine works were submitted, and that she looked for pieces with meaningful messages when making her final choices.
Two of Kaitlin Infante’s pieces are being displayed during this year’s exhibit. In addition, the Youngstown State University graduate who earned her bachelor’s degree in photography received $100 for the Juror’s Award.
Infante added that she’s been involved with the show and has been a committee member of the YWCA since 2007.
“I really enjoy participating in local art events and exhibitions,” she said. “They give Youngstown-area artists the chance to showcase their work in their own city.”
The McDonough, located at 525 Wick Ave., is open Tuesday through Saturday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Admission is free. For more information, call 330-941-1400.
