It’s been less than a year since Youngstown-based band With No Chance introduced itself to the area’s music scene. The band released its debut self-titled EP on Sept. 25, channeling a 2000s punk rock sound.
What started out as a solo project created by Colin Polombi in early 2025 later evolved into a band with his brother, Anthony Polombi, and Ivan Lindberger. Colin Polombi is the lead singer and guitarist, with Anthony Polombi on bass and Lindberger on drums.
“Anthony and I grew up playing together … my dad was musical, and he was pretty well known in the Youngstown area. And then, he had us, and we got a hold of the music bug, as we like to call it,” Colin Polombi said. “We met [Lindberger] in one of our bands, my sophomore year of high school … and then we started playing together, just jamming.”
Colin Polombi said the three of them had always been in bands together, but it wasn’t until the break up of their previous band, Maruem, that they decided to create the trio.
“The fallout of [Maruem] was eventually what led me to start writing my own songs and recording them here and just kind of throwing it all together, just because I have no experience, everything I do is self-taught,” Colin Polombi said.
Colin Polombi began releasing music in December 2025, with his single titled “Retry.” After the release, he formed the band in February.
The band released three more singles before its self-titled EP. Colin Polombi said the songs were recorded and demoed over the course of two years.
Colin Polombi said the final track of the EP was titled “Shattered,” which he wrote at the end of his junior year of high school.
A lot of the band’s music is inspired by alternative artists from the pop punk era such as Blink-182, Dinosaur Jr. and Superdrag, according to Colin Polombi.
“I’m dabbling [in] a little bit of everything pretty much. But I take influence from many different places, but whenever I make something, it ends up being part of the alternative rock tree,” Colin Polombi said. “It’s a big umbrella, and it covers a lot of ground.”
Colin Polombi said he’s always been interested in writing and keeps a journal on him when inspiration strikes. He said most of the songs he writes are motivational, with some exceptions.
“A lot of my songs are actually pretty motivational when I listen back, and ‘Retry’ especially is very motivational. I like to have a lot of positivity, although some songs are kind of emotionally charged like, ‘Feel the Same’ and ‘End of Everything,’” Colin Polombi said.
With No Chance performs at 6:30 p.m. Oct. 24 at the Penguin City Brewing Co. showing of “The Rocky Horror Picture Show.”
