The Youngstown State University men’s golf team continued the spring portion of its 2024-25 season April 13-14, when it began play in the two-day Wright State University Invitational at Heatherwoode Golf Club in Springboro.
Freshman Jordan Kish and junior Ryan Sam participated in all 10 events YSU played this season, while sophomore Jake Ryan and redshirt freshman Nolan Shilling each competed in nine tournaments. Redshirt sophomore Michael Porter and senior Jacob Sylak participated in eight events.
The Penguins placed ninth in the team standings at four-over-par with a three-round total of 856.
YSU recorded a team score of 284 in each of the first two rounds Sunday, before closing the event with a 288 in the third and final session Monday. Youngstown State’s season low of 856 is tied for the fifth-lowest 54-hole performance in program history.
Ryan tied for 16th with a career-best, three-round score of 212 to come in as YSU’s top individual. His career-low, three-under-par 68 in the final round featured 11 pars and five birdies as he shot a two-under-par 34 on the front nine.
Michael Porter finished tied for 21st aftering matching his career-best, three-round total of 213. The redshirt sophomore’s one-under-par 70 in the second round included 13 pars and three birdies, as he turned in a one-under-par 35.
Tied for 35th, Shilling finished with a three-round 216. The redshirt freshman’s even-par 71 in the second session featured 12 pars and three birdies. Kish finished 44th with a three-round score of 218. His even-par 71 in the opening round included 14 pars and a pair of birdies.
Youngstown State will now turn its attention to the 2025 Horizon League Golf Championships, which take place April 19-21 at Mission Inn Resort in Howey-In-The-Hills, Florida.
