A $50,000 donation was made by Greg and Alice Greenwood to the Kilcawley: Centered on the Future Campaign.
Youngstown State University President Bill Johnson said he is grateful for the Greenwoods’ donation to the campaign.
“This generous donation will help make Kilcawley Center an even more dynamic and welcoming place for our students,” Johnson said.
Scott Schulick, chairman of the Kilcawley Campaign, said he is grateful for the donation and pleased to have the Greenwoods as contributors to the project.
“They have a long history of giving to many philanthropic efforts in the community,” Schulick said. “We’re glad they’ll be a part of this effort.”
The gift is part of a larger $150,000 donation, with $100,000 going towards the renovations to Beeghly Center. The Sperry Rongone Women’s Basketball Lounge will be named in honor of Greg Greenwood’s long-standing administrative assistant, Sperry Rongone.
As the YSU board of trustees looks to re-bid Kilcawley’s construction costs, Schulick said the recently approved bond issuances are a part of the process.
“Whenever the university has major construction, the timing of funding that comes from philanthropic gifts, as well as state dollars, doesn’t come in a neatly organized fashion,” Schulick said. “In order to move forward with the construction, the bonding issue will provide the needed financing.”
